The fiery exotic dances of Georges Bizet’s Carmen suites along with the rustic and exhilarating rustic folk dances from Béla Bartók provide the idea for the theme of this concert. Much of the music on this program has a sense of urgency, of energy and movement, hence the title Olé. However these energetic impulses are calmed by the music of Spanish composer Joquin Rodrigo and his Cuatro Madrigales Amatorios (Four Madrigals of Love), as well as by J.S. Bach and his Fugue in G Minor and Suite no. 1. The upbeat music from the Jazz ensemble and charming First Suite in Eb by Gustav Holst performed by the Symphonic Winds also contributes to this festive atmosphere. We hope you enjoy our exciting program full of contrasting music and emotions.
