Mission
The Greater Erie Youth Symphony Orchestra (GEYSO) is an independent, non-profit
organization founded in 1987 by Erie philanthropist Dr. George J. D'Angelo, that aims to
provide young people, without regard to race, gender, religious belief or socio-economic status, the opportunity to study with the finest music teachers and conductors in the tri-state area.
Volunteer Guild
Parents and volunteers provide support to the GEYSO management as well as to each student through hosting fund-raisers and social events and assisting with performances and other programs. Guild support ensures that each student receives the very best music education. Past activites have included organized trips to hear performances of the world's greatest orchestras, including Cleveland and Pittsburgh, as well as performance of the Boston Symphony in New York City's famous Carnegie Hall.
Mentors & Master Classes Highly qualified and dedicated faculty mentor students at weekly rehearsals of the Symphony Orchestra. String pedagogy Master Classes are held on a monthly basis for the strings of the Symphony Orchestra. This Master Class experience and weekly mentoring adventure of rehearsing side-by-side with outstanding professional instrumentalists and teachers, elevates the students' awareness of what is expected and required to achieve the highest level of artistic excellence.
